Land Cover Change and Water Quality: How Remote Sensing Can Help Understand Driver–Impact Relations in the Lake Titicaca Basin

چکیده
The increase of human interventions and developments are modifying the land use/land cover (LULC) global landscape, thus severely affecting water quality rivers lakes. Appropriate management effective policy required to deal with problems surface contamination around globe. However, spatiotemporal variations its complex relation (LC) changes, challenge adequate resources management. In this study, we explored use remote sensing relate LC change in Katari River Basin (KRB) located Bolivian Andes on shores Lake Titicaca, order support An unsupervised classification Landsat 7 satellite images trajectory analysis was applied understand modifications through time. addition, water-quality indicators at outlet basin were retrieved from remote-sensing temporal behavior analyzed. results show that expansion urban areas is predominant environmental driver KRB, which has great impact Titicaca. We conclude there a strong link between rapid growth industrial detriment river lake quality. This case study shows how can help driver–impact relations.

Land cover land use mapping and change detection analysis using geographic information system and remote sensing
Land cover/land use categories are relevant components in land management. Understanding how land cover/land use change over time is necessary to assess the consequences of humans and natural stressors on the earth’s environment and resources. The aim of the study was to map and monitor the spatial and temporal change in land cover/land use for the periods of 1977, 1991 and 2016 and to predict ...
متن کاملRemote Sensing Analysis of Land Cover Change
In Australia, remotely sensed Landsat data is routinely used for mapping and monitoring changes in the extent of woody perennial vegetation. Time series remotely sensed satellite imagery and ground information is used to form multi-temporal classifications of presence/absence of woody cover. Two broad-scale operational land cover change and monitoring projects are based on a series of algorithm...
متن کاملRemote Sensing Applications: Beyond Land-Use and Land-Cover Change
Remotely sensed (RS) imagery is increasingly being adopted in investigations and applications outside of traditional land-use land-cover change (LUCC) studies. This is due to the increased awareness by governments, NGOs and Industry that earth observation data provide important and useful spatial and temporal information that can be used to make better decisions, design policies and address pro...
متن کاملMonitoring basin-scale land cover changes in Kagera Basin of Lake Victoria using ancillary data and remote sensing
The Kagera basin is a high value ecosystem in the Lake Victoria watershed because of the hydrological and food services it provides. The basin has faced large scale human induced land use and land cover changes (LUCC), but quantitative data is to date lacking. A combination of ancillary data and satellite imagery were interpreted to construct LUCC dynamics for the last century. This study is an...

This study analyzes the characteristics of land use/land cover change in Jordan’s Irbid governorate, 1984–2018, and predicts future land use/land cover for 2030 and 2050 using a cellular automata-Markov model. The results inform planners and decision makers of past and current spatial dynamics of land use/land cover change and predicted urban expansion, for a better understanding and successful...
